Unicru: George Orwell’s “1984” coming to life

I just realized as I was taking a couple unicru tests today how to answer these “correctly”.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’m currently reading a new book (well, actually, the book is as old as I am, but I’ve never read it so it’s new to me).

It’s called “Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television” by Jerry Mander. It’s about how we are becoming more and more removed from nature and learning from experience to an artificially created world where we learn only by what others tell us. Mander often refers to Orwell’s “1984” as well as Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World”.

In the most recent chapter of FAFTEOT, Mander described a religious group called Erhard Seminars Training, a contemporary of Scientology, if I understand correctly. They require(d) strict adherence to the rules and thought processes of the religious leaders (and ultimately to the founder, Werner Erhard).

Reading through the brainwashing techniques that Werner used, it becomes much easier to see what kind of answers unicru is looking for.

So, on the one hand, knowing this may make it easier to “pass” unicru tests, but on the other hand, it’s disconcerting, because to “pass” means to submit to brainwashing techniques.

I’ve seen some people visiting my blog to read about my techniques to pass the test, but also to see if lawsuits have been filed against unicru. I was thinking the same thing, but with corporate America heading in the direction that it is, I think we are merely seeing a taste of what the future holds for us.

Those of us that don’t fit in will fall between the cracks.

I cannot recommend strongly enough reading “Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television”, though I would also read Neil Postman’s “Amusing Ourselves to Death”.

Flagrant, blatant, glaring, obvious, overt, conspicuous, barefaced, shameless, brazen, undisguised, unconcealed, outrageous, scandalous, shocking, disgraceful, dreadful, terrible, gross ignorance. You have no idea what you are talking about regarding Werner Erhard. I worked alongside Werner for nine months and found him to be amongst the most admirable people on earth. It was an honor to work with him. -Doug Hines
