Ugh. Just getting over the flu (of the stomach variety). I literally didn’t leave the house for three days.
Anyway I won’t go into that much. But it’s been interesting the remedies I’ve preferred the few times I’ve gotten sick since being back in the States. When I got sick in Japan and Taiwan, I missed the familiar remedies of the West, like chicken noodle soup. Instead I was introduced to….agh! Why am I talking like this? This is coming out all formal-like. I’ve been watching too much Jeeves and Wooster… Anyway, I was introduced to things like rice porridge (a lot of variations, but in its simplest form is just rice and water), miso soup, or like, some people in Japan recommended tamazake (that’s sake with raw egg in it).
And now, being back in the States, I have access to chicken noodle soup and whatever else people take here and…I don’t want it. The last couple of days I’ve been having rice porridge. And today, when I was finally able to go out to the store again, I bought some miso soup. Just had it tonight. I didn’t realize how much I missed it.
Anyway, yeah. So continuing on the last thing I wrote. I need to take some tests to be eligible for the teaching program. One is a basic skills test (reading, writing, math), one is the subject area content test (biology…and I think I need to take another for the particular school I’m applying for…I’ll probably choose math or maybe ESL), and the third is, well…that’s the GRE. I don’t need that test to get a certificate, but the school throws a Masters of Teaching in for a few credits more and roughly the same price. I mean, why would I not?
In addition to these tests, I need to take a CPR/First aid course and get my fingerprints taken and checked by the FBI. Fun. I’ve never had my fingerprints taken before.
In the meantime, I’m trying to find a whatever job for income. I thought I’d have an easy in at the cinema I often go to, but man, they’re taking a long time. I’m gonna laugh if they don’t take me. A lot of minimum wage places I’ve applied to are skeptical as to why someone who’s last three jobs have been teaching jobs wants to work for them. What do I tell them? Hmm…this reminds me of another entry I need to post.
Well, I’ll keep you posted on what happens. I got my study aids from Amazon so I can start studying for the tests. I imagine I’ll do that now since I’m feeling a bit better.
Oh yeah. It snowed like crazy yesterday. Didn’t stay, but for a little while it was sticking. It was December 1st, too. Nice timing.
