Unicru

*Update. Read this post if you haven't already, but also see my possible strategies to pass the unicru test.*

Have you heard of this? It’s a personality profile questionnaire that large companies are asking…well, not asking, requiring prospective employees to answer to see if they fit into the company. I think it’s absolutely wrong, but what can I do. I won’t go venting about it. Instead I’ll post this article about it. This is from The Washington Post from, well, a couple years ago, so maybe this isn’t new to you. But click here to read it.

The thing about this test is that it’s asking questions that have nothing to do with one’s ability to perform the job in question. I’ve had to take these questionnaires for Costco, AMC (movie theater), and Blockbuster Video. A video store! I started looking online to see how this was affecting people’s ability to find work. And, indeed, I have found that some people are not qualified to work at a video store because they don’t have the right personality.

Looking at numbers, it’s a way for big companies to be more efficient at hiring quality workers by knowing all prospective employees’ flaws before they even walk into the interview room…if they even pass the personality test.

*sigh* …It’s like I’m living in a satire.

I’m beginning to get a little worried I won’t be able to find a disposable job while I’m waiting for the teaching program. Oh, wait. I shouldn’t say disposable because I might actually make a career out of working at a movie theater or video store…a job by its very nature is a summer job for high school students. AMC hasn’t called me by the way. Maybe I’m over-qualified, but honestly, if I’m in transition, I can’t be that picky. It’s still an honest job. Why shouldn’t I be allowed to work if I’m willing and able?

Anyway, that’s all I’m going to say about that. Check out the link to the article about this test. I think this will become a big issue in the near future.

Ok, I did go venting about it.
